At Hans Christian Andersen’s House, every sense is awakened as you journey through his magical tales in an entirely new way.

While celebrated worldwide for his fairy tales, Hans Christian Andersen’s creative vision also extended to the art of papercutting. For Andersen, the heart was a profound symbol of love. He created his very first heart-shaped papercut early in life, and it became a recurring, essential motif in his delicate papercuts. Notably, he crafted the earliest known Christmas heart, which is now preserved in the collection at Hans Christian Andersen’s House. Though known as a storyteller, he was truly a master of the heart—as he beautifully captured in his 1855 autobiography, The Fairy Tale of My Life: 'With the heart, one hears my fairy tale.'

Inspired by the heart and his iconic papercuts, we have created a collection that plays with colour, builds layer upon layer, and invites the imagination to take flight.
