A greeting from Harald Bluetooth

Kongernes Jelling/The National Museum of Denmark

Dishtowels
Tea-light holders
Ear studs
Thermos cups

The Jelling rune-stones are national symbols associated with the foundation of Danish identity. The large rune-stone is called ‘Denmark’s birth-certificate’, because on it Harald tells that he made the Danes Christian.

Kongernes Jelling is a hyper-modern digital experience centre, telling all about the Vikings and their lives. History is brought to life in a totally up-to-date way, which is what we wished to bring into play by connecting the old runes with modern everyday articles.

The departure point for the design is the runes. There are ear studs in surgical steel with each of the 16 letters of the runic alphabet, so you can wear your own initials. The tea-light holders have the whole of the runic alphabet printed on the inner side, so they become visible when the tea-light is lit. The dishtowels have a Jacquard woven section of the great Jelling runic stone on them, printed in colours inspired by those of the Viking period. soSouvenir has also produced thermos cups with a black outer surface and illustrations of Gorm, Thyra and Harald carried out by the illustrator who decorated the experience centre.
