The Maritime Museum of Denmark is built around a former dry dock; the award-winning architecture was designed by the architect firm BIG: Bjarke Ingels Group. The museum’s appeal is very broad: retired seamen, students of architecture, yachtsmen, and young families. It was an important decision taken by soSouvenir in consultation with the museum to conceptualise series of merchandise, which have the same format but appeal to different target groups as regards their motifs.

The concept was to get back to the museum as the authentic source of the goods in the shop. Promotion is focused on maritime classics in general, combined with the story of the unique architecture of the museum, which attracts visitors from all over the world.

soSouvenir has supplied a selection of basic merchandise, which has a twinkle in one eye – and the other one firmly fixed on what is trending. The course was set with navy stripes, anchor patterns, and references to seamen’s china dogs. We have also employed attractive tattoo illustrations created uniquely for the museum by Stef Bastian. Another line uses new, atmospheric photographs, which portray the dock and the architecture of the museum.
